A Frenchman, Jean-Paul, takes his girlfriend to the Pauper’s Day Parade, in which the poor make floats and balloons celebrating their poverty. In a series of scenes, the woman sacrifices her well-being, and ultimately her life, for her French lover; During a walk in the woods, she lies down across a stream so that he can cross it without getting his shoes wet. Trapped in a lifeboat, she feeds him her own body. Jean-Paul reminisces about his relationships with other women and Oscar Ballwell offers reflections on love.
