This is one of my favorites. From the nuclear power debacle, to the addiction study section…. Absurd genius. But for me, the monologue on Jesus’ long journey to Calvary is really encompassing of so many of the aspects that make Joe so compelling to listen to. We hear of the many things that go through Jesus’ mind as he makes the trip to Calvary with the cross, his ambivalence of the whole situation, wondering if there is some way he could get out of it, He wonders how things could have been, had he just been a normal guy and fell in love with a girl, and laments the fact that he’ll die a virgin….

And then there’s the section at the end. Sometimes it’s hard to know if Joe is serious or pulling your leg, but I’ve always found his rant here about “knowing God” and “approaching the Diety” deeply profound and moving. It has given me goosebumps plenty of times.

“Maybe God is in your tears” – Joe Frank
