The story of Joe’s step-father’s illness takes place at The Fountains, a luxury, Spanish-style compound in which Joe’s parents live. Anecdotal stories concerning Freddy’s never-ending frugality and the suffering it causes Joe’s mother; Freddy’s gaffes, like eating a fortune cookie with the fortune still in it; the progressive brain shrinkage of Freddy’s admired friend, Conrad, which reduces him to incoherence; Joe runs a marathon for Freddy’s life, as Freddy checks into the hospital. Notes: Except for re-recorded voice and music tracks, the language in this program is virtually identical to the later re-mastered A Death in the Family (an improved rendition of the material in this one).
