The very first J.F. show I heard (and taped- and still have it and listen to it) on KCRW back in 1986 after coming home from my English as a Second Language class (thank you so much Portia La Ferla for teaching us). Not understanding everything he was saying I was so happy to find someone who had something to say in such an entertaining way that captured my attention. After more than 30 yrs of listening to his shows I still can’t get enough of it. For example, every Thanksgiving I put on the “Pilgrims” and listen to it over and over again. I begin to wonder, how is this possible? Simple. What those shows are “talking about” are TIMELESS, they never become old – just like the GREAT ONES (Shakespeare, Dostoyevsky, Orwell, Kafka, Vargas-Llosa, Vonnegut, Swift, Rostand, Nabokov and so on) And YES, Joe is there amongst them. (Also with Stalin, Hitler and Pol Pot – wink-wink – which show was that one?)
