Launch!

After nearly a year, we are happy to go live with a rebuilt JoeFrank.com! Though it may not look all that different, as you navigate through the site — especially the shop and Membership — you’ll notice some changes on the front end along with new content.

Importantly, we migrated the site to a new, more robust server. Now, we’ll be able to stream media at a higher resolution. (We are still in the process of re-encoding media and will update the site as it is completed.)

In addition to managing the site day-to-day, I’ve spent a lot of time organizing, cataloguing and digitizing media – still incomplete, but I’m continuing undaunted. You’ll find more accurate show information that’s been updated from original reels, tapes and CDs, or captured on paper. Note that my efforts are ongoing, so not all shows reflect the corrections!

I’m very grateful for the effort and commitment of Logan, who has been with the site since we initially launched in 2003. Logan dedicated considerable time to improve site security with updates and plug-ins to the new server among other things.

We also welcomed Brandon onto the team, who offered to help and provided more than we could have hoped for to elevate the design and interface of the site.

They each have full-time day jobs and families, and I cannot fully express my gratitude for how much they’ve given to the site.

We are just beginning to add more to the Membership and for sale. If you are not already signed up for the Newsletter, it’s a good time to do it now! (The Newsletter sign-up form is on every page of the site in the right-hand column–on your mobile device, you may need to just scroll down.)

Enjoy, and as always, thank you for your support. It is because of you that Joe has a lasting legacy.

Take care,
Michal

And we finally have an About Us page where you can put the face behind our names!

Joe’s Birthday News

Joe’s birthday is August 19th. He will have been 87 years old. I remember so many of his birthdays when he would declare: “It’s absurd that I’ve been able to live so long.”

And it was true. Aside from his many surgeries since he was a baby, as an adult Joe survived cancer four times, and had total (and sudden) kidney failure requiring a transplant. In the end, it was sepsis that claimed his life. He fought long and hard to live. I’ve never known anyone with so much determination and love for living – despite how cynical he could appear to be in his programs.

Joe Birthday 2017

August 19, 2017 celebrating his birthday with a few close friends. On the right is Paul Rachman. This was one month after his last cancer diagnosis and less than two months before surgery. (My “helping” him blow out candles is completely unconscious.)

News:
I’ve been uncovering and digitizing new works. Because there is a lot – including short films – we soon realized we needed to upgrade our server in order to accommodate the new media. That process is underway now. You can expect the new site launch within the next couple of months.

Meantime, enjoy these shows we’ve added for sale and for Members:

1996 – the original Eye in the Sky from Somewhere Out There
1997 – Joe Frank Live: Women Police Officers part 2

Pledge Drives:

March 23, 1991 (Work in Progress)
January 30, 2000 (The Other Side)

For Members only:

1988 Interview on KPFK with Joel Bellman
1995 Interview with John Craddock
2013 Joe gives his opinion on football uniforms with Frances Anderton (KCRW)

Coming next month:
“Joe Frank Live in Washington DC”!
We digitized some reel-to-reel tapes that were cryptically labeled and discovered this gem! It’s from the early 1980s. Coming for Members only!

As always, thank you all for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Michal & Logan
